Rain!!!

After having seen hardly any rain during my time in Colima (apart from just after my arrival and during Lea's visit), I got the first real rain on my last day in Mexico City. On my last day there I went to a jazz concert at the Escuela Superior de Música which basically happened in the dark because of a power failure. Nothing that would really distract anybody here. They just used a few flashlights and moved the parts that needed electronic instruments a bit to the back. I finally realized that the power cut was the reason for the concert in the dark, when nobody in the strangely dark restaurants around would serve a coffee and the second place told me that this was because of the power cut. Suddenly it all made sense, I went to the next shop and bought a bottle of coke to get the urgently needed caffeine. ;)

I don't know if this specific specific power failure was related to the rain, but when we have a thunderstorm in Colima, we usually get a few cuts of a few seconds each. Well, good to have a laptop that can just be disconnected from the mains for electric safety and then work with wireless network and not connected to anything that could get hit by lightning...

On one of our Monte Grande trips we got into a massive rainfall event so we could watch a few lahars. Well, not quite the style described in Wikipedia. At this scale they are nothing but little rivers on a mountain containing lots of little rocks and mud. We still call them lahars.

A few days later everything looks nice and green again. I can't believe how much two weeks with rain have changed the landscape.

When we went to Parícutin two weeks ago, we got into the rain on the way down from the volcano. Since we were at >2000m of altitude it got quite cold. At least the clothes inside my backpack stayed dry thanks to a plastic bag...

Well, now we get a thunderstorm every few days which is great because it gets the temperatures down from ridiculous to bearable. Especially for the night they can really help and it is not too difficult to stay inside for two hours or so while everything get's flooded.
