El Crustaceo
Well, you can't really live in Colima without going to the Crustaceo Cascarudo. It is the bar in town. Open from Wednesday to Sunday with most business on Friday and Saturday it offers live music (Los hijos de la mama bulinga) and beverages of all kinds. Ranging from my favorite, the limonda, that is made from real lime juice, over normal beer, cheladas, micheladas to the moped. While a normal beer is quite easy to imagine, a chelada is a beer with lime and salt on the rim of the glas and a michelada in addition gets a mixture of tabasco and Maggi soy sauce. The moped is something on the order of Tequila and gets poured into the victim whose head then gets shaken while a helper honks loudly. It is given to people having their birthday and - well Ida and Anna got two in a row each when they left.
The music varies over time. On Wednesdays you will usually only find Memo playing the guitar and the closer Friday and Saturday get, the more of the band appears.
While on Wednesdays you might be pretty much alone in the bar, on the busy nights it can be difficult to find a seat.
The setting is - of course - with an open courtyard, that is somewhat protected by a tarp. This open construction has the great advantages of keeping the temperatures in a reasonable range and permitting the cigarette smoke to leave the place so you don't have to ban your clothes from your room after going here. In the back room there is a pool table where we regularly try to get the right balls into the pockets. Putting the white one is commented on as [gluc] in Mexico.
